In Greene County district court Marcus Anthony Hill, 52, of Fort Dodge was sentenced Nov. 6 to five years in prison after he pleaded guilty to a charge of passing winning wager to another person, amended from fraudulent practice- third degree. The prison term was suspended and he was placed on probation to the Iowa Department of Correctional Services for two years. He was fined $1,025 with a $153.75 surcharge. James Pena, 26, of Denison was sentenced to 180 days in jail after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of possession of marijuana. The jail term was suspended and he was placed on probation for one year to the Greene County sheriff. He must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at his own expense. Pena was fined $430 with a $64.50 surcharge. He must pay an amount not to exceed $500 restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees. A charge in magistrate court of possession of drug paraphernalia was dismissed. Christopher Ray Brotherson, 56, of Breda was sentenced to two years in prison after he pleaded guilty to a charge of criminal mischief- third degree, amended from criminal mischief- second degree. The prison term was suspended and he was placed on probation to Boone/Greene County Probation for two years. Brotherson was fined $855 with a $128.25 surcharge; both were suspended. he must pay $2,987.91 restitution to Wild Rose Casino. Court costs were $100. (Sentencing: McCarville)
Jesse Legrant Edward, 41, of Shell Knob, MO, was sentenced to five years in prison after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of burglary- third degree. The prison term was suspended and he was placed on probation to the Iowa Department of Correctional Services for three years. He was fined $1,025 with a $153.75 surcharge; both were suspended. He must pay victim restitution to be determined and an amount not to exceed $500 restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees. Court costs were $303.84. (Sentencing: McCarville)
Ethan Michael Struck, 23, of Ames was sentenced to 180 days in jail after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of possession of cocaine. The jail time was suspended and he was placed on probation to Boone/Greene County Probation for two years. He must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at his own expense. He was fined $430 with a $64.50 surcharge. A charge of possession of marijuana was dismissed. Court costs were $100. In a companion case, he was sentenced to 30 days in jail on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. The jail term was suspended. Merissa Shawnay Olson, 34, of Jefferson was sentenced to one year in jail after she pleaded guilty to a charge of possession of methamphetamine. The jail term was suspended and she was placed on probation to Boone/Greene County Probation for two years. Christopher James Lehrkamp, 38, of Scranton was sentenced Nov. 8 to five years in prison after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of operating while intoxicated- third offense. He was fined $3,1125 with a $468.75 surcharge. A charge of driving while license revoked was dismissed. In another case, Lehrkamp was sentenced to one year in jail on a charge of leaving the scene of an accident- injury. The jail term is consecutive to a prison term in a previously reported OWI case. He was fined $430 with a $64.50 surcharge. A charge of driving while license revoked was dismissed in that case. The court ruled he is unable to pay restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees and court costs due to incarceration. Judgment was also entered in a magistrate case in which Lehrkamp was charged with harassment- third degree. In that case he was sentenced to 30 days in jail, consecutive to the previous sentence. Jesse Ray Nelson, 38, of Red Oak was sentenced to five years in prison after he changed his plea to guilty to one count of burglary- third degree. The prison term was suspended. He was fined $1,025 with a $153.75 surcharge. He was sentenced to 365 days in jail on a charge of theft fourth degree, also suspended. He was fined $430 with a $64.50 surcharge. The terms of incarceration are consecutive if Nelson serves them. He was placed on probation for three years to the Department of Correctional Services. Four counts of burglary- third degree were dismissed. Nelson must pay an amount not to exceed $500 restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees and $286.92 court costs. Persons pleaded not guilty at arraignment as follows: Alicia Anne Marie Arnajallum, 37, driving while license revoked; Billie Jo Hovick, 50, of Jefferson, fraudulent practice- first degree; Joshuah Jay Blumberg, 29, of Grand Junction, intimidation with dangerous weapon; Bryan Douglas Woodward, 61, of Palo, operating while intoxicated; and Jerry Francis Fortmann, 58, of Lanesboro, operating while intoxicated- second offense. A trial date was set for Jan. 6 for Hovick and for Jan. 28 for all other defendants listed.
Cases were initiated in Greene County district court as follows: Samantha Nicole Randall, 39, of Des Moines, unlawful possession of prescription drug- two counts and possession of methamphetamine- third or subsequent offense, warrant issued April 22 and served Nov. 5; and Aryanna J. Rank, 18, of Churdan, possession of marijuana.
